What is Powder Coating?
Powder Coating is an advanced method of applying a decorative finish to a wide range of materials and products that are used by both industries and consumers. The powder that is used for the process is a mixture of finely ground particles of pigment, solid solvents, resins, flow agents and hardeners which are sprayed onto a surface to be coated. The electrically charged powder particles adhere to the grounded surfaces until placed into the curing oven and baked at temperatures 180 to 200 degrees Celsius. The result is a uniform,durable,high-quality, attractive finish. Powder Coating is the fastest-growing finishing technology in north america.
Powder Coating gives consumers, businesses and industry one of the longest-lasting and most color-durable quality finishes available. Powder Coated surfaces are more resistant to chipping, scratching, fading and wearing than other finishes. Color selection is virtually unlimited with high and low gloss, metallic and clear finishes available, and colors stay bright and vibrant longer. Texture selections range from smooth surfaces to a wrinkled or matt finish and rough textures designed for hiding surface imperfections.
Where is Powder Coating used?
Powder Coating is used on thousands of products and parts worldwide, such as, motorcycles and motorcycle accessories ,appliances, automotive parts, architecture/building,and common every day products.
Motorcycles and Motorcycle Accessories
Because of the long life and durability of powder coating it is used on almost all high-end and custom Motorcycles, such as Harley Davidson, BMW, and Ducati etc.
Appliances
The appliance industry benefits from Powder Coating on front and side panels of refrigerators, washer tops and lids, dryer drums, air-conditioner cabinets, water heaters , dishwasher racks and cavities of microwave ovens. Powder coating has also replaced porcelain enamel on many washer and dryer parts
Automotive
The automotive industry uses Powder Coating on wheels, bumpers, hubcaps, door handles, decorative trim and parts, truck beds, radiators, filters and numerous engine parts. A clear powder top coat has been developed to protect auto bodies. BMW and Volvo are using it on their new model cars also GM, Ford and Chrysler have formed a consortium to test this technique on their production lines.
Powder Coating Applications
- Protective finishing on appliances, rangers, refrigerators, washers, dryer drums, etc.
- Painting and top coating on cars, body, wheels, door handles, hub cap, etc.
- Protecting aluminum extrusions used on windows frames and doors.
- Paint finishing highway light poles, guard rails, signage, fencing, etc.
- Finishing non-metal products, kitchen cabinet.
- Durable finishing for outdoor equipment.
Powder Coat Benefits:
- Highly durable, chip, scratch, fade and wear resistant
- Wide range of color selection
- high/low gloss, metallic, clear finishes
- Environmentally friendly: no solvents, no VOCs
- Minimal waste
Environmentally Friendly!
Powder Coating is also highly protective to the environment. While liquid finishes contain solvents which have pollutants known as volatile organic compounds (VOCs), Powder Coating contains no solvents and releases negligible amounts, if any, VOCs into the atmosphere.
